While Little Big Town’s fans are eager for their favorite band to get back on the road following Jimi Westbrook’s vocal surgery and subsequent vocal rest, it looks like they’ll have to wait a little bit longer. In June, LBT cancelled or rescheduled several shows and were originally set to resume the tour’s schedule on July 31 with a show in Delaware. But it now appears that Jimi’s vocal chords need more time to rest and the group has cancelled more of their shows. A message posted on the band’s website says, “It is with deep regret that we must cancel an additional three weeks of shows in August due to doctors’ orders for Jimi to rest and recuperate his voice. We want to come back on the road to you guys at 110% and this additional time will make sure that happens!” They then wrapped up the message by thanking everyone for their support, love and patience during this time, adding, “We can’t wait to see all of you.” The next tour date listed on LBT’s website is August 22 at the Eastbound Hoedown Music Festival Avondale, Canada.
The band also posted a video on their Twitter account addressing the additional cancellations. The video shows the four band members sitting on a couch, with Westbrook wearing a piece of blue tape over his mouth so he can’t talk. During the video, Phillip Sweet points to Jimi and says, “As you can see Jimi is still not talking. They just got back from the doctor, and he just needs a little bit more time to heal up so he’ll be a hundred percent and get back on the road.” The clip then ends with Karen Fairchild quickly pulling the piece of tape off of Westbrook’s mouth and telling him sorry. Kimberly Schlapman then says, “She loved that.”
